Within the framework of a reconstruction of the conceptual relationship between aesthetics and critique, the essay proposes to understand the wayward formations of art as an aesthetic critique of social reality, whereas design requires a critical thematization, since it always already inscribes itself in social practices. This thesis is developed in more detail with a view to social design, in which its procedural and normative elements cannot be reconciled.
